San Francisco

Although it may not have the glamour of Los Angeles, San Francisco is an exciting place to take a travel assignment. There are several large medical centers, including a few children’s hospitals. When you are not at work, there is plenty to do. San Francisco is home to professional sports teams, including football and baseball teams. There are also lots of museums and historical places to visit, such as Alcatraz Island, Golden Gate Park, and Fisherman’s Wharf.

Sacramento

If you prefer a city a bit smaller, but still rich in history, Sacramento may be a good place to spend some time as a healthcare traveler. Sacramento also has a professional basketball team, plenty of nightlife, and lots of outdoor activities. There are several lakes and nearby attractions, including amusement parks, museums, and tours, such as the state capital building. Sacramento is home to large medical centers and smaller community hospitals, which may use healthcare travelers.

Lake Tahoe

Although Lake Tahoe does not have the population of a big city, there may still be travel opportunities for nurses and other healthcare workers. Tahoe has a lot for healthcare travelers to do, such as casinos, water activities, winter sports, and beautiful scenery. Just across Stateline, you can visit Nevada and enjoy Squaw Valley and other world class ski resorts.

Napa

Napa is famous for its wine, but if you can land a travel assignment at one of the area hospitals, you will discover there is more to Napa than wine tasting. There are plenty of spas, tours, places to shop, and smaller towns around Napa to explore. But if wine is your thing, you will be in heaven. There is a large variety of wineries to visit from castles to small family owned vineyards.

Yosemite Valley

If you are a nature lover, finding a travel assignment near the Yosemite Valley would be ideal. Yosemite has miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Rock climbing and rafting are also available for those with a more adventurous streak.

Mount Shasta

A bit further north, Mount Shasta is another northern California city where you will find great scenery, lots of opportunities for winter sports and plenty of outdoor activities, such as hiking and mountain climbing. Mount Shasta is a bit less populated than some of the other cities in California, which makes it a great escape.
